Traditionally
each parish has its own Altar Society to assist the priests
in the upkeep of the sanctuary and in the cleaning and presentation
of the church for worship. Members volunteer their time and
provide the funds for works such as the provision of new vestments,
liturgical books, texts for the people's use and song books,
altar linen and candles for the altar. They also provide and
arrange flowers for the services, as well as arranging rosters
for cleaning the church and sacristy.
St Francis' is not a parish church, therefore we very much depend
on the generous support of the wider community. We do not have
local people to volunteer for many of the tasks outlined above,
so we appreciate the financial support that allows the Blessed
Sacrament Community to continue to provide for the liturgical
needs and for the cleanliness of the church. The Altar Society
is our primary source of income that enables us to maintain
St Francis' at the highest level of cleanliness and presentation
for worship and prayer.
Membership in the Society is a minimum of $5.00 per annum, and
is open to all people. All members share in a Mass offered at
St Francis' each Thursday throughout the year, as well as in
the prayers offered for friends and benefactors by the Blessed
Sacrament Community. Deceased persons may also be enrolled.
Further information available on the Altar Society leaflet that
can be found in the church porch or by contacting the Blessed
Sacrament Community at St Francis'.
